Electroacupuncture is based on the theory of acupuncture with the difference being that we don't use needles but wires relaying a mild electrical current.
Acupuncture is an ancient practice of alternative medicine. It consists of a complete and complex therapeutic method. It is based on the painless insertion of hair-like thin needles to specific points of the body.
Acupuncture is not exclusively a Chinese practice but also used in other Eastern Asian countries such as, Korea, Japan, and Sri Lanka. Findings have shown that even in such places as Greece, Africa, South America, and the Eskimos the locals had knowledge of acupuncture with variations and techniques.
The basic factor of acupuncture is energy. This energy is the GREAT IMMOBILITY, which is the basis of the universe.
From this great immobility are born two complementary poles, the Yin and the Yang, representing immobility and mobility. The multiple combinations of the Yin and the Yang make up the universe. Consequently whatever exists in the universe is just a combination of the Yin and Yang in different ratios.
When this combination is in harmony, there is health. In the opposite case there is unhealthiness. The task of the acupuncturist is to make sure that this combination is in harmony; meaning that it is in a good balance.
Many acupuncturists may not even know the name of the illness, yet they are capable of detecting the a disturbance of energy in the body and doing whatever is necessary to restore the lost balance.
All parts of the body are sites that collect energy. Each of these energy sites are a portal where energy from the body meets the cosmic. If that portal cannot protect the body from an attack of cosmic energy an illness occurs. The acupuncturist action is to discover this part and treat it.
In acupuncture to de-congest the blocked sites, the therapist will place the needles on top of the blocked sites. As with electro-acupuncture that does not uses needles but wires with a mild electrical current.
It is important to realize that the "ailing" part is often not in close proximity to the place where the symptoms of the illnesses are present. For example, a unhealthy part of the leg can disturb the kidney or the ovaries. If someone has a headache, the cause can be found in the stomach or in the hand!
Treatment with Electro-acupuncture
- Duration of sessions: 3 times the 1st week: 2 times the 2nd week and accordingly spaced out. Each energy point is 20-90 seconds
- Duration of electro-acupuncture points: a total of 3-10 minutes to the points according to the problem and the patient. Adjustments of the time are made to avoid self-healing reactions.
- Number of electro-acupuncture points in each session: 3-15 at most for each session, excluding exceptions.
Usually, the treatment of electro-acupuncture combines very well with another therapy such as reflexology, aromatherapy, etc.
Intensity of Electro-Acupuncture
The intensity of the electrical current differs according to the individual. However, a low intensity is not used because it will not have the desired results. Nor is a strong intensity used (non bearable) because the body repels the stimulation. Special attention should be paid to the intensity for areas of the eyes, ears, carotid, solar plexus, liver, bile and medulla oblongata.
