Reflexology - Holistic Therapies - Julie Hakim

reflexology22Reflexology is the holistic treatment of a particular physical pain and the revitalization of the body's functions. The therapist applies pressure with the hands using special tools (sticks), to specific points on the soles of the feet and/or the palms of the hand.  These points reflect the different organs of our body.

...the soles are the maps of our entire body. Reflexology will relieve you from physical and emotional pain, anxiety and tensions!

Reflexology is a holistic therapy and has a salubrious affect on all the organs and the biological functions of the body. It alleviates problems and creates a balance to the disharmonies, even when they are chronic. It is beneficial for all ages, completely harmless and highly affective when it is performed by a qualified therapists.

Julie Hakim, an alternative therapist with scientific studies in Reflexology, will help you in a entirely natural way torid yourself from the physical pains that plague you. Your body will be rewarded with a good health, revitalizing all your organism's functions in an extremely efficient way.

What is reflexology?

The word reflexology refers today to a therapeutic method during which the reflex points on the soles are pushed in a particular way so to create the desired effects on the parts of the body that are far away from the feet.

reflexology33The term reflexology is complex. Etymologically it derives from the English world reflex and the Greek suffix -ολογία. Consequently if we want to attribute the term completely to Greek we would say "Reflective therapy" or "Reflectotherapy". However, the term reflexology has prevailed in the Greek language.

Similar reflex points exist in the hands, however it is more common to work with the souls of the feet as the reaction of the reflex points are much better there.

Which diseases are combated more effectively with reflexology?

In which patients is reflexology not applied to:

Reflexology is a mild, harmless and natural method, yet there are some cases that can apply to reflexology treatment. In these particular cases attention is paid to not work for too long or too strongly in that area.

More specifically, in cases where the patient suffers from thrombosis, phlebitis, diabetes, cancer, psychopathic conditions or heart diseases reflexology should not be considered. Also in cases of a scheduled surgery, during early pregnancy, in elderly individual sand in cases where a foreign object or a transplant organ exits in the body it is recommended with caution.

How does reflexology work?

For many individuals the idea that a massage on the soles of feet may improve their health may seem too far-fetched for them to take it seriously. Still with the help of reflexology it is possible to deal with many problems that we will mention before.

reflexology-29362741There are areas in the soles, hands and ears that correspond with all parts of the body, so that diseases of the entire body can be cured through these areas.

The soles of the feet, where reflexology is usually applied, are designed in an ingenious way.  It is astonishing that such a small area can support an entire human body with a remarkable ease, even when the individual is overweight! The strength of the feet and the agility one has is achieved by the particular structure of bones, muscles and ligaments of which it consist.

The method of reflexology is to equalize all the systems of the body and to harmonize the entire body.

The term "imbalance" means that a particular region is not functioning effectively, either due to poor blood circulation or due to tension that exists at that point. Because the aim of the therapy is to equalize; a hyperactive area relaxes, whereas a hypoactive one is activated, creating a balance of the body so that it may restore itself.

The body can easily fall into a state of "imbalance" due to stress, diet or negative thoughts. This as a result prevents the proper function of the body's systems. When we deal with the reflex areas of the feet, the imbalances are located, and with the proper treatment the body rediscovers its lost balance, and consequently its good health.

The history of reflexology

reflexology73The origins of reflexology started nearly5000 years ago with the Chinese who practiced a form of acupressure using principles similar to that of acupuncture. The ancient Egyptians also used similar methods around 3000 B.C. These are shown in certain wall paintings in the tombs where the feet are held and being rubbed in a certain way.

One of the oldest books ever written on the subject of zone therapy was in 1852 by two famous European doctors named Dr. Adamus and Dr. Atatis. Dr. Bell published another book on the same subject a bit later. During that period it has been documented that many people in Central Europe, from the poorest to the very richest including even the kings used some form of acupressure.

The first development in zone therapy can be attributed to an American surgeon, Dr. William Fitzgerald. Dr. William Fitzgerald was remarkable for his perseverance and courage in this area. His colleagues had no desire to accept his new ideas.
